Friends Of St. Luke's
A vital source of support in the development of this great hospital "The Friends" of St Luke's Hospital (Dublin) was established in 1981 to raise funds to enhance the care, comfort and management of cancer patients at St Luke's. Our "Friends" are comprised of fundraisers throughout the country who have been touched in some way by St Luke's. Family members and friends of patients who have been treated at St Luke's undertake activities to raise funds for the Hospital. So far over €26 million has been raised and funds continue to be sought to ensure that patients benefit to the fullest extent from the advances in techniques and equipment, which will lead to even more sophisticated and successful treatment in the future. Funding is provided for the purchase of new and replacement equipment and structures for diagnostic and therapeutic use in cancer treatment. The alleviation of suffering is also a priority, as well as the encouragement of clinical research within the Hospital. Each year The Friends continue to strive to exceed their goals and seek the continued support of the "Friends" throughout the country. Without the help of fundraisers and other benefactors it would be impossible to generate the revenue needed to continue to help St Luke's deliver its plans to maintain the high level of service afforded to patients who attend. Over the past 28 years much equipment has been purchased and many projects completed in the Hospital through fundraising including since 2003:
In 2009 The Friends are committed to the purchase of a second CT Simuator / Scanner for therapeutic purposes, a new Diagnostic Imaging Suite with digital x-ray and digital ultrasound, complete refurbishment of the department to include a new waiting and changing area and a new archiving and management system for the images. This will dramatically improve the patient experience of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Fundraising activities include
