Advanced Technology
At the core of radiotherapy is technological development. Treatment field arrangements are becoming increasingly complex. The department now has eight high energy Linear Accelerators (Linacs), which has allowed us to introduce advanced treatment techniques in an efficient, effective and safe way. Six of our Linacs have multiple energies (two are single energy), six have the capability to use IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy), four are IGRT (Image-guided radiation therapy) enabled and one is equipped for stereotactic radiotherapy. We also have two treatment machines that provide more simple treatment techniques; a cobalt unit which treats mainly palliative patients (these patients can be fast-tracked and usually have their treatment planned and their first treatment delivered on the same day) and an orthovoltage unit, which we use mainly to treat skin cancers. | ||
