Organisation of the Radiotherapy Department

The overall operation of the radiotherapy department is overseen by the radiation therapy services manager.

The deputy radiation therapy manager has responsibility for the practical running of the department including staffing. The deputy liaises closely with radiotherapy orderlies (who work mainly in the treatment review clinics in the department) and radiotherapy clerical and administration staff.

The research and development manager is responsible for overseeing research and implementing new technology, techniques and work practices within the department and acts as a link between the radiotherapy department and the clinical trials unit.

Each individual radiotherapy unit and work area is run by a clinical specialist radiation therapist that has an in-depth knowledge of the techniques, practices and specific patient caseload for that area. The clinical specialist leads a team of radiation therapists and senior radiation therapists.
