Information Service and Support Groups
Radiation Therapists from St. Luke's continue to provide a comprehensive Radiation Therapy Information Service (RTIS). This group provides information for patients and their families/carers as well as non-radiation therapy health care professionals. The group provides workshops and lectures on a variety of radiotherapy related topics including mould room, simulation, treatment planning, radiotherapy and its side effects. Users of this service include medical students from UCD, TCD, SHO's (St. Luke's orientation programme), public health nurses, and nurses undertaking Oncology Certificate and Diploma courses, and Irish Cancer Society educational programmes.
Members of the department are also actively involved in the provision of the support services for patients and their families.
RTIS implemented the 'Radiotherapy - Patient Welcome Evenings' in July 2006. The welcome evening consists of a short lecture about Radiotherapy, and a guided tour of the Radiotherapy department followed by a questions and answers session.
