Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department is involved in several areas pertinent to patient care.
- Responsibilities include the purchasing and dispensing of all medication, nutritional products and fluids used in St Luke’s Hospital. Stock levels are also maintained at ward level by pharmacy staff.
- Pharmacy is responsible for the purchasing and dispensing of chemotherapy specific to patient requirements. Intravenous chemotherapy production is purchased from external licensed units. All chemotherapy is confirmed, checked and released by the pharmacist before onward distribution to the ward. Pharmacy staff have a close working relationship with medical and nursing staff as well as the production units to ensure the safe, efficient and economic provision of this service.
- Weekend leave medication is provided for inpatients who wish to go home at weekends as well as three days worth of medication at discharge to ensure seamless pharmaceutical care during these transitionary periods.
- Newly prescribed medication is supplied to Oakland’s Lodge patients for the duration of their radiotherapy treatment.
- Pharmacy regularly provides a medicine’s information service to both medical and nursing personnel.
- Pharmacists at St Luke’s endeavour to deliver a clinical pharmacy service where possible to inpatients to ensure the safe, effective and accurate delivery of medication.
Opening Hours:
Monday – Friday: 9am-1pm 2:15pm-5pm
An emergency duty pharmacist is available outside of the 9-5pm opening hours via Nursing Administration.
