Hospital Wards and Oakland Lodge

With a complement of 179 beds, St. Luke's has four in-patient wards and a five-day unit (Oakland Lodge) which is a home from home facility situated on the grounds of St. Luke's.

There are four in-patient wards in St. Luke's.

  • Ward A is a mixed male and female ward.
  • Ward B is a male only ward. They are two iodine suites on this ward.
  • Ward C is a female only ward.
  • Ward D is a mixed male and female private ward.

Your bed may be in a six-bedded, four-bedded, two-bedded or single room.

There is a television in each ward. There is also a sitting room on each ward.

You may be asked to move beds if your clinical condition changes, or to accommodate another patient's clinical condition. This can occasionally happen during the night. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Day Ward

The Day Ward is a five-day unit. It is open from Monday to Friday. It is an open plan unit with nine beds and 11 recliner chairs. A variety of treatments are provided such as Chemotherapies, Immunotherapies, Biphosphonates and Blood Transfusions. Patients having minor surgical procedures and pain relieving interventions are also accommodated.

It is the Day Ward Philosophy to create a safe, open and friendly environment to ensure holistic care to patients and their families.

Oakland Lodge

Oakland Lodge is situated on the grounds of St. Luke's and consists of 49 ensuite rooms. All rooms have a fridge and tea making facilities. Washing and ironing facilities are also available.

All patients are assessed prior to admission. Your Consultant will determine your suitability for the Lodge. For patient safety reasons, a strict admission criterion applies.

What to bring

  • Nightclothes Underwear Dressing gown Slippers
  • Comfortable day clothes Face flannel
  • Towels
  • Hairbrush or comb
  • Current medications, e.g. tablets/ inhalers/diabetic medications etc.
  • You will also need toiletries: non-perfumed soap, talc and deodorants.
  • An electric razor is preferable to razor blades.
  • Your nurse will give you your skin care advice.

You are advised not to bring valuable items into the Hospital.

Consultant Ward Rounds

Consultant ward rounds vary. Please check your Consultant's timetable with the Clinical Nurse Manager on the Ward/Unit or Oakland Lodge.
